That would not really work, for the simple reason that cards can have multiple tags.

Adding a card type clone and bulk converting cards with a certain tag using the card browser should be less than 1 minute work...

Developer's note to self: implementing this would require that the card.question["plain_text"] renderer strips out the fast format characters, just like it does now with the card level formatting

You know that for each card type you can pick a different background colour, right?

Allowing people to specify a different colour for the question and yet a different colour for the answer seems a bit overkill to me...

Your formulation using cloze cards is also another way to achieve similar results, but it seems rather verbose.

You can add sound files to cloze card types as well.

Spelling it out in a little bit more detail

    Q: foreign word (2)
    A: meaning 1
    meaning 2

    Q: meaning 1
    A: foreign word
    also: meaning 2

    Q: meaning 2
    A: foreign word
    also: meaning 1

    I don't see the ambiguity...

There are many options, card type is one option, but it could be complemented by a certain tag as well.

What you will get quite soon is the option to export cards to a txt file, in a format similar to the one used for import.

Generating a file that can be used for printing actual recto-verso flashcards is probably a bridge too far...

Reviewing on the command line is not yet implemented, but the whole of libmnemosyne is exposed through a Python scripting interface. See the example_scripts directory in the linux tar ball.

Not really, no. SM-11 seems to take the view that this is a well-posed computational problem which you can solve. I'm of the opinion that the optimal scheduling is inherently very fuzzy and depending on lots of external factors which you can't capture in an algorithm, so a simple heuristic like SM-2 is probably the best you can do.

Personally, I'm not convinced a higher series number is a true improvement in this case. Don't forget that SM is a commercial endeavour, so they might have other incentives to boost version numbers beyond a true improvement.

We could certainly learn something from studying the statistical data, but at the moment I believe there are other features which would be of more benefit.

The entire Chinese functionality would be a plugin.

As for the scratchpad, I was just thinking a simple drawing canvas. Reimplementing Scritter is probably a bit too much to ask :-)

If you have a large number of unlearned cards, 'show unlearned cards first' would essentially go on forever before you get to your scheduled cards. In that case, you would need to go into 'settings' again and uncheck that option. I like switching card sets better because it's more explicit, and can be done with a few keyboard shortcuts as well.

Cramming indeed violates the SRS principle :-)

As for activating only unlearned cards, I have personally felt that it would be helpful to look into your new vocabulary at many different times throughout the day. In the current implementation, I first need to go through all the scheduled cards, so that in practice, I only get to see my new cards in the evening, leading to less effective study.

Theoretically feasible, but it would be very expensive to calculate and probably require some caching.

I will first start by implementing a webserver that you can run on your own machine (see the separate idea on that topic).

A multiuser webserver running on the internet is something I might consider at a later stage, but which will probably requires people paying a small fee to recover hosting costs.

In essence, what you're proposing is an option to activate sister cards manually, as opposed to the current situation where the sister card automatically gets introduced in the queue tomorrow.

I personally think that would place a heavy burden on the user, since he would have to remember to manually introduce each sister card. It would also complicate the UI...

I'm not in favour of adding 'free days', as your memory itself does not take a holiday.

If you miss reviews, Mnemosyne already automatically reorders cards based on their priority.

I personally thing the cleanest solution to this problem with the least potential to abuse is simply not to learn too much material in one go :-)

This is why there is a warning message if you learn more than 15 cards per day.
