  1. I love mnemosyne but dislike the management aspects (taking backups, moving it from device to device.)

Wondering why there would not be a web-version that I could access just like I access my email?

This is not declined, but closed because there is already a suggestion like this open, so it’s a duplicate. See the proposal ‘universal offline mobile client’ for details, and the comments in that thread, specifically my link to the G+ post.

Short summary: webserver integrated in Mnemosyne GUI is coming in next version. Mnemosyne for iDevice will need to be written by someone else.

Note that the current version already comes with a non-integrated webserver (mnemosyne-webserver). This will be integrated in the GUI in 2.3

  4. I love the "Cloze deletion" function, especially for establishing the knowledge foundation for a new subject.

I find it useful to prepare quite a few cards in a text editor to see how they in total cover a topic before copy-pasting them into Mnemosyne, Import function would be handy.

  5. What I miss is linked cards where a set of arbitrary number of cards (ranging from 2 to n) is ordered by a field and always presented (reviewed/tested) in the same order. It could be a front-to-back only card type with the sort field. The system would ignore grading of the cards (that would only serve to move to the next card) and would use only the last card grading as the grading for the whole set.
It is not available in Anki and in Anki forums long time ago there was supposed workaround that never worked. The only difference…

  6. I tend to load cards in bulk. At present, I have to create one file per tag type or edit the cards afterwards. The process would be much quicker if I were able to generate the tags within the file to be loaded. Just to be able to load one tag in this way would be nice; two would be wonderful.

  8. I am using Mnemosyne to learn physics, and it would be a great idea to enable a card to have notes attached to it, which are unseen by default, but which can be viewed by the click of a button.

I find myself having questions about particular definitions or formulas that I am trying to memorize, that I have to look up immediately because I can't attach these questions to the cards themselves. This interrupts the process of reviewing cards.

  9. Ok, I've noticed a memory phenomenon happening when I use Mnemosyne. Suppose I add card A and memorize it, and sometime later add card B and memorize that. After a while, IF the cards A and B are similar, I get easily confused between the two. I believe this is called interference.

I suggest a solution. Introduce the ability to group cards like A and B together, and show them one after the other over and over, so I can understand what the differences are between the two. This sort of learning by comparison and contrast happens outside of Mnemosyne…

  10. When you import a txt file with urls in the audio tags (e.g., "<audio src="http://central.languagepod101.com/wordlist_audio/888167.mp3">), the files don't load until you go through and manually edit every card. The Missing Media tag should be enough of an alert that something seems to be lacking - at least the tags can all be removed in one step.

  11. I am using the version 1 of mnemosyne and i like to make my questionary in a text file with question/answer in separate line, because it`s more easily for me to understand an edit them, also I can study them in others places.

In the actual version of mnemosyne this import option does not exist.
I will apreciate that back to be available.

  13. Sometime we require tables to present a set of information such as truth tables and decision tables.
Supporting HTML tables will make this easier.
Currently we have to make the table in spreadsheet, screenshot it, and add it as an image. This makes it slow to make changes and large size in the database.

  14. The ability to export (and import) to an xml format would allow third party developers to be able to play nicely with the cards in this program. Cards could be exported to smartphone apps that understand the xml, or imported from that same app.

Additionally The cards have extra data, such as a category or tags and statistics. The ability to export this data in a granular fashion (selecting which data to export) would allow the deck organization and learning data to be transferred or synchronized with third party programs and apps.

  15. It would be great if you manage to make a mnemosyne app for appstore, or integrate the program in your website, which will be very helpful for people who travel a lot, iPad and Windows Mobile users etc.

  18. Would be good to have option to see the answers in the cloze deletion on one card at once. E.g. learning German I create the question card: [Das] Badewasser schwappte über [den] Rand [der] Wanne [hinaus], the one answer card shows all replies at once das - den - der - hinaus instead of creating 4 cards. Very practical for grammar learning.

  19. Examples:
Learn a list of birds by name, picture and song.
Learn Japanese vocab by kanji, hiragana and translation.
Learn a list of countries by name, capital and flag.

Be able to select which aspects of the card are quizzed. This way there could be a master database for vocab in many languages and select which language to work on.

  20. On the computer, I had no problems at all using latex (together with the config.py latex preamble). Thank you very much for this program!
However, in many cases, a latex formula cannot be displayed on the android app (e.g. <$>a{bc}</$> cannot be displayed although <$>a_b</$> works fine). This is very annoying, because the app neither lets you skip the question nor displays the rest of the formula. The formula is just overwritten with text telling you that either latex or dvipng isn't installed. That is why the android app is currently useless to me (I am a mathmatics…

(BTW, for bugs and support questions, Uservoice is not the right place, that’s for voting on future suggestions).

Is latex properly installed on your desktop machine? Do the formulas show up there? It’s not android that generates the latex, that’s your desktop machine right before a sync.

For that reason, it’s also important that if you customise e.g. the latex preamble on your desktop, you make the same change on your android phone, otherwise it will not recognise the desktop’s images.
