Text to Speech
It would be lovely if TTS could be included though I suspect this would be v. difficult due to the availability of decent free TTS engines and voices. Perhaps someone out there knows more than I.

The feature Text-To-Speech would improve dramatically my listening and pronunciation. This lovely piece of software has floated on internet more than 10 years without this significant characteristic.

Google Translate is getting really good, although the quality depends on the language. (Don't trust them on stress position for Russian. Yet.) With the DownloadrHelper app for Firefox you can get the mpeg file and add it to your database - there are probably equivalents, I just don't know about them.
Using AutoHotKey you can automate the process and - after saving the audio file - add the 2 lang's and the audio to a Mnemosyne card with one keystroke. (This will be a great deal simpler to set up with the newly-added unique Windows captions - thank you for that!).

Workaround tips on TTS.
1.There is a good/perfect TTS for English. I'm happy with it.
Spanish, German, French available. MP3.
{ no Dutch yet, Peter :-) }
2.Faster site, but for ONE word only - Google site , MP3,
https://ssl.gstatic.com/dictionary/static/sounds/de/0/encumber.mp3Just replace "encumber" {2 x click on it } with your word.

For text-to-speech I use a Mnemosyne 1.x plugin called 'Custom Tag', which I have configured to run a command-line text-to-speech application. This plugin doesn't work in v2.x

It's time really - you can spend forever searching the net for the right language and accent. Then, the clip may need editing to isolate the fragment you want. I'm quite handy at sound maniplulation, but it's time and effort I'd rather spend on learning the language.
On the whole, I've found that a good TTS is better than nothing. There are a few good engines & voices out there, and they are improving all the time. -

Why do you want an text to speech plugin? Many text to speech engines just aren't that good. Isn't it better just to record the sound or find it on the internet?

I consider this feature one of the most intersting plugins of mnemosyne 1.X. It would be great if it was possible to play it trough the app mnemododo app for android too.

My kid needs to learn spelling. Would be nice if the word was spoken through tts and then he could type in the word.
