  1. Changing initial order of cards

Mnemosyne by default displays the cards in the order they where added.

However there is no way of changing this order after the cards have been added. For example if you want to create a set of cards for someone you may want to control the order, so that the learner learns the basic first before going on to the more advanced stuff.

For example you may want to learn the regions of a country before learning the cities in the regions.

    ---

Possible solution may be to be able to drag the order of the cards via the card…

  2. Expand Vocabulary card type for words with multiple meanings

Option to have card type fields like

    Foreign Word
    Meaning 1
    Meaning 2
    ...

This would still create a single recognition card, but two productions cards, one with Q: meaning 1, and one with Q: meaning 2

  3. Command-line interface (CLI)

Have a simple command-line interface to run mnemosyne on a headless machine (useful for the synchronization feature, for example) or review cards in the command-line.

Probably not very difficult to implement.

  5. Graphical Cloze Deletion Cards

Most of the cards I create contain images with blacked out sections of the image and preparing a lot of these cards is a very laborious task. It would be nice if the "Add Cards" window had the following three new bits of functionality allowing for the creation of what amounts to graphical cloze deletion cards.

    1) a button labeled "Upload Image" (one button for the question field and one for the answer field) that, once pressed, would open a dialog box and allow the user to choose the desired image. Once chosen, the image would automatically populate the question/answer…

  6. Calendar to schedule memorization

You often have to memorize vocabs for an exam on a specific day. It would be nice, if you could tell Mnemosyne: "I have an exam the first of July. Please make a schedule for my x cards! But next Sunday, I won't have time to memorize any cards." Some kind of graphical calendar may be nice too, where you can see, how many cards you will have to remember and when.

  7. Random calculation assignment plugin

Suggesting a plugin for making a math type assignment using random numbers predefined by the user.

The syntax may look someting like this:
    <!--mOn-->
    ...
    <!--mOff-->
Tells the plugin that it should be active in this area

    m-randomNumber(newVariableName, numberFrom, numberTo)
A new variable is defined with a variable between numberFrom and numberTo, the number of decimals given as input may indicates how many decimals should be displayed in the card.

    mCalc(calculation, decimals)
Calculation with the variables previously defined and numbers. Decimals: number of decimals to be displayed in the card.

An example of how a card might look like, FRONTSIDE…

  8. Upgrade Algorithm to SM-??

As a recent user pointed out, SM-2 has been used in Mnemosyne for a while now. I'm not sure how much of the data is academically usable (read publishable) but I'd be surprised if there wasn't enough to draw at least a few conclusions. Is it time to upgrade to a more recent algorithm that more accurately predicts the time interval between repetitions?

Personally, what initially drew me away from SM and toward Mnemosyne was the user interface. At this point, I've become quite comfortable with the concept of creating and reviewing cards. As a result, SM's algorithm is starting…

  9. Mnemosyne web server hosted on the internet

It would be nice to have a web site with Mnemosyne functionality.

I realize that is totally different application and could not be built around current Mnemosyne app, but anyway, I think that would be great.

  10. Activate cards based on grade or date created

Extend the current 'Activate cards' dialog such that you can activate e.g. only the unlearned cards, or cards added during the last week.

Could be useful for learning new cards before going through the scheduled cards, or for cramming recently added cards.

  12. Enable distribution of x days of scheduled learning elements to y days

Typically I enter new cards in "bulks" of same topic. Let us say that I in a couple of days enter 500 cards bulk topic A.

I am eager to learn them quickly. After some days "calculating statistic" reveals that in x days scheduled cards per day will suddenly drop dramatically.

At the same time I realise that I would benefit from spending some time learning another basic topic before chewing into bulk A. It would then be very convenient to tell mnemosyne: Please take the 500 cards (tag = Z) you have scheduled for repetition the next 10 days…

  13. Statistics tab for "how many cards memorized"

Its very motivating to see how your knowledge has increased over time. It would be nice to have a bar graph that shows, over the last month/year/etc., how many cards were "in the user's memory" at that time. The criterion could just be that the card existed at that time, or was at a certain score, or was up to a certain number of days between repetitions. In the simplest case (just seeing if the card existed), it would basically be the integral of the "cards added over time" graph. It would be great to see some graph that showed…

  14. Activate sister cards manually

Example: When learning a language the passive understanding of the new language is easier than actively recalling words and phrases in the new language. When learning German i prefer to train "der Junge"? = "the boy" for a while before training "the boy"? = "der Junge".

So: When editing a "Front to back" card it would be super to have an indication "This card has no sister" and the option "please create the 'Back to front' version of this card".
(Using this functionality a lot of the "sister-cards on same day" discussion would fade...)

  15. Supermemo import

A robust supermemo import function would avoid me having to do my repetitions in both tools. The import has to carry over the learning history (difficulty and next interval or similar).

  16. Minimalistic / full screen mode plugin (30 work units)

Allows showing Mnemosyne full screen, without any other parts of the OS present.

Different UI components can be turned off, so as to focus only on the things you find important

  19. Copyright protection

Add an option to copy protect the card you export, for example through password when importing and export restriction.
